Marilyn Meyer Wells

July 4, 1944 – July 2, 2021

Marilyn Meyer Wells of Boerne, Texas, passed away on July 2, 2021, just two days shy of her 77th birthday.

Marilyn was born on July 4, 1944, in San Antonio, Texas, to Benno Meyer and Norine Baumgarten Meyer. She grew up in San Antonio and attended John Marshall High School where she met her future husband, Larry Wells, riding the school bus. She later graduated in 1962 and went on to attend San Antonio College. She and Larry got married in 1965 and had two daughters, Jennifer and Shannon.

They eventually made their home in Leon Springs where Marilyn first worked as a part-time church secretary at Leon Springs Presbyterian Church and was a homemaker while her children were growing up. She also worked as a secretary for Industrial Systems in San Antonio and Spectrum Creations in Boerne.

Marilyn spent most of her life volunteering her time to help others. This included being a volunteer firefighter in Leon Springs, a church elder, helping out at the Kendall County Women’s Shelter and driving friends to appointments or work as needed. Most people don’t know that she also saved her neighbor’s life after he collapsed from a heart attack in his garage.

She had a tremendous love for her family (especially her grandkids who affectionately called her “Gom-Gom”) and her church and church family. She enjoyed getting together with friends and playing card games or dominoes. She was also the organizer of her “Lunch Bunch” where they would get together monthly for lunches at various restaurants. She loved cheering on her beloved Spurs and had a hobby of baking delicious treats for others – especially her infamous pumpkin bread!

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Larry Wells; daughters Jennifer Fowler (husband Zac) and Shannon Mayo (husband Matt); her grandchildren, Emily and Addison Mayo, and Weston and Luke Fowler; her brother, Robert Meyer; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Benno and Norine Meyer, and brother Johnny Meyer.

A Celebration of Life will be held on August 7 at 10:30am at Leon Springs Presbyterian Church, located at 23943 IH-10 West, San Antonio, Texas, 78257.

In lieu of flowers, please send your donations to Leon Springs Presbyterian Church or the Kendall County Women’s Shelter.
