Maurice Emil Theis

December 12, 1930 – August 23, 2021

Maurice Emil Theis, 90, of Boerne, Texas, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, August 23, 2021.

Maurice was born on December 12, 1930, to Emil B. and Louise Agold Theis, in Boerne, Texas. A lifelong resident of Boerne, he is part of one of the original German families who settled in the area. He graduated from Boerne High School in 1949, and through all his career pursuits has loved being part of the Boerne community, raising his family here and being part of his church and community organizations.

He was hired as a civil service employee for the federal government and pursued a career in the very new field of computers as a systems analyst before most people even knew what computers were. His career with the Civil Service spanned 35 years at Fort Sam Houston and Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

Upon retiring, he began a second work career, helping run the family business, Hill Country African Violets and Nursery, where he spent 30 years taking care of all the facilities, equipment and property.

Maurice was a charter and lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church in Boerne. He loved being involved with organizations in Boerne. He was a director for the Kendall County Junior Livestock Association, helping organize the annual livestock show and sale for the 4-H and FFA kids in the county. He was a member for many years of the Grange, an agricultural organization promoting and supporting the farming and ranching industry. Maurice was involved with the Boerne Rural Fire Association, where he helped raise funds to support our local volunteer fire department with equipment and facilities to aid our community.

He farmed on his own property, growing hay and raising sheep and cattle.

He was a true outdoors man. He loved to hunt and fish and involved his family and many friends in those activities. He loved sports of all kinds, supporting our local high school sports teams throughout his life, attending games well into his 80s.

Maurice married his high school sweetheart, Betty Jean (Froboese) Theis, on September 5, 1953. They were just a few days short of celebrating 68 years of life together. Their life with each other is truly an example of what marriage is meant to be.

Maurice is survived by his wife, Betty Jean; and three children, Ronald Theis, Paula Flukinger and Lori Hawkins (Jess), all of Boerne. He is also survived by a wonderful legacy of grandchildren, Stephanie Theis of Boerne, Isaiah Ubando of San Antonio, Texas, Ashley Arispe of San Angelo, Texas, Russel Flukinger of Boerne, Wesley Flukinger of Boerne, Adam Hawkins (Vanessa) of Boerne and Cody Hawkins (Kelly) of Heath, Texas; and great-grandchildren Courtney Whiting of Salado, Texas, Trinity Arispe, Aliana Arispe and Everly Mirelez, all of San Angelo, Texas, Gracie Hawkins and Charlie Hawkins, of Boerne, and Cooper Hawkins and Mack Hawkins (expected in two weeks) of Heath, Texas. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends.

Maurice is preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Gladys White and Ruby Schaub; and his infant son, born in 1964.

A visitation will be held on Monday, August 30, 2021, from 5 to 7 pm at Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at 10 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Boerne.

Please consider donations in his name to St. John Lutheran Church, 315 Rosewood Ave., Boerne, TX 78006; Boerne Fire Department, 726 North Main St., Boerne, TX 78006; Kendall County Junior Livestock Association, P.O. Box 149, Boerne, TX 78006; or the charity of your choice.
