Robert E. (Bob) Martinez, 86, of Boerne passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at 11:30 a.m. Bob was born in New York City on Feb. 5, 1933, to the son of immigrants Julio Martinez and Amelia (Arguello) Martinez.

He attended George Washington High School in New York City as well as the New York City School of Music. After a year of attending New York City College he joined the military and proudly served in the United States Air Force as a radio and communications instructor in the Panama Canal Zone. He met the love of his life, Lenni D. Chacon in 1956 and they went on to enjoy 55 loving years of marriage Bob was a lover of classical music and often spent time playing the violin, piano and guitar. He passed down his appreciation of music to his kids and grandkids. He was never bored always finding time to learn new things like how to speak and write in German and was an expert at fixing any gadget the grandkids had broken. Bob was great at programming as well as a master computer technician and developed the program used in our family owned gymnastics and dance center. He enjoyed Fox News and watching college football, especially the Miami Hurricanes and Texas Longhorns. He had a love/hate with the Dallas Cowboys, but never missed a game.

The one thing Bob, affectionately known as “Mito” to his grandchildren, most enjoyed was traveling with the family and they had the most spectacular vacations visiting Disney World, the snow and showing the grandkids around New York City. He spent time documenting family gatherings with his camera and often capturing the most unflattering angles, but all of it was with love and always followed by a smile or corny “dad joke.” He was an amazing father and grandfather who taught valuable lessons that will not be forgotten. His incredible sense of humor and appreciation for life will be missed by so many.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Noel and Martha Dolores Martinez. He is survived by his wife Lenni D Martinez, son Robert E. Jr. wife Shannan and children Brenna, Dylan and Kendal-Riley; daughter Lisa Sallick and son-in-law Rodrigo Sallick and grandchildren Leighann, Christian and Morris Sallick; daughter Lexa Martinez Newsted and son-in-law Mark Newsted and grandchildren Samantha, Sabrina and Sophia Hernandez.
