Sybil May Varga

May 30, 1928 – January 11, 2021

Sybil May Hogue Varga went to heaven to be with Glynn on Monday, January 11, 2021, at her home in Boerne, Texas. Sybil was born May 30, 1928, to Willie and Nadine Hogue of Tyler, Texas. The oldest of five children, she took on the role of “The Boss” which would stay with her throughout her life.

After earning her bachelor’s degree in education from East Texas State in Commerce, she had her first and last teaching job in Rocksprings, Texas. Two of her students were cousins, Neville Gordon Smart and Douglas McNealy, which helped her make the decision to end her teaching career.

It was in Rocksprings that she met and married the love of her life, Glynn Varga. They were married May 30, 1948. Sybil ended up working and retiring from the phone company, ran several businesses in the community, but most importantly raised their two children, Clay and Stephanie. To Sybil, there was nothing more important than family.

Sybil was preceded in death by her husband, Glynn; her parents, Willis Pedris and Nadine Hogue; a brother, Kirby Hogue; sister-in-law Thelma Hogue; and brother-in-law Garland Varga.

Those left to honor and cherish her memory include her children, Clay and wife Jan Varga and Stephanie Varga; grandchildren Ashlee and Rick Pfeiffer, Farrah and Teil Haynes, Dub and Annalise Anthon, Lezlie and Douglas Brewster and J.D. and Abby Varga; great-grandchildren whom she was most proud of Bianca, Benjamin and Josiah Varga, Riley and Reid Pfeiffer and Archer, Ladie and Poppy Anthon. She is also survived by her sister, Wanda June Thornton; brothers Walter Hogue and Michael and wife Carol Hogue; sisters-in-law Valeta Hogue and Sherry Varga; and numerous nieces and nephews whom she adored.
