The Boerne Champion girls soccer team dominated Tuesday’s district opener at Veterans Memorial, but didn’t have a lot to show for it, at least on the scoreboard.
Champion outshot the Lady Patriots, 24-2, including outshooting them on goal, 16-2, but only won by a single goal, 1-0.
A win is a win and the Lady Chargers will take it as they start 26-5A action at 1-0. Champion, 3-3-1 overall, is off Tuesday and will have their 2020 home opener Friday when they host Harlandale, 7 p.m. They are off Tuesday.
Braxten Barkley converted the team’s only goal midway through the second half on the assist from Kallyn Zaner and the 1-0 lead held until the end.
Taylor Wieland and Audrey Riordan were both in goal 40 minutes and combined for the shutout. They came up with one save each.
