The Boerne Champion boys basketball team was fighting for second place in the district standings heading into Tuesday’s regular-season finale at Veterans Memorial but had a tough task against the 26-5A champs Patriots.

Champion needed to beat Veterans Memorial to stay in second place heading into the postseason, but the Patriots showed why they’re district champs and defeated the Chargers, 60-44.

Champion ends the regular season at 28-5 overall and 10-4 in district. Wagner is also 10-4 but since they swept the Chargers this year, they take second behind the Patriots, while Champion slips to third. Tivy is the fourth-place team at 8-5.
