SAN ANTONIO – Boerne Champion tennis coach Joey Cantu graduated a lot of good players from his team last season, especially on the boys side, but felt this year’s squad could make a strong push in 2022 despite their lack of experience.

The Chargers did just that and fell one win shy of advancing to this year’s 5A state tournament last week. Old foe Alamo Heights defeated the Chargers for this year’s Region IV-5A crown at Blossom, 10-6.

The Mules were up 5-2 after doubles but the Chargers won four of the next six singles matches and closed the gap to 7-6, however Heights won three straight singles matches to put it away.
