CHS Deer bests Blanco in five-set thriller

The Comfort volleyball team bested the Blanco Lady Panthers in a five-set thriller Monday night in a bi-district playoff match in the House That Shaq Built at Cole High School in San Antonio.

Comfort prevailed in the end, 12-25, 25-13, 28-26, 21-25 and 15-9. With the win the Deer improve to 22-16 overall. They faced Vanderbilt Industrial in an Area or second round match on Thursday in Seguin. For results, check the Star’s Sports Twitter account and see Tuesday’s Star.

Blanco dominated the first set before the Deer rallied in the next two sets to take the 2-1 match lead. Down 15-8, Blanco rallied in the fourth set to win, 25-21, and tie it up at 2-2 and force a fifth game.

In the fifth set, the Deer pulled away thanks to some timely kills from Savanna Weyel and Shay Rodriguez and brilliant serves by Seigel Fritze.
