It’s apparent that the break from school hasn’t slowed down the training of Boerne Champion runner Chachi Gonzales.

Gonzales, who just wrapped up her sophomore year with the Chargers, recently met up with some area runners and training partners to have an unofficial time trial race.

In the girls 1,600, Gonzales turned in a time of 4:41.98 to set a personal record. According to MileSplitTX, the state record in the 1,600 is a 4:40.97 set by Julia Heymach of Houston Lamar in 2015, so Gonzales was only about a second off the mark.

In the spring, Gonzales set a greater San Antonio area record in the 800 and also broke a Boerne ISD record in the same race. Gonzales ran a 2:10.04 at the BISD relays to break the BISD record held by Courtney Darter Bruce (2:12.07) set 22 years ago. She also broke the greater S.A. record held by Smithson Valley’s Devin Clark (2:10.20) set in 2015.
