Boerne Champion had six girls basketball players recognized by the District 26-5A coaches.

Two Lady Chargers were named first-team all-district, three landed on the second team and another was named honorable mention for the Champion team that finished the year at 26-10 overall and 10-6 in district.

First-team all-district selections for the Chargers include senior Katie Drawdy and sophomore Khiara Flugence.

Senior Prestley Hammond, junior Addisen King and junior Hannah Barraza were named to the second team, while sophomore Kristen Borgerding was the only Lady Charger named honorable mention.

Champion was the fourth-place team in 26-5A behind Veterans Memorial, Kerrville Tivy and Wagner. The Lady Patriots from Veterans Memorial won the region and advanced to the state championship game before their season ended one win shy of the 5A girls title.

The Lady Chargers had a pretty good run of their own once the playoffs started and advanced to the third round of the postseason for the first time in school history.

Champion opened with a grind-it-out 39-38 victory over Dripping Springs at New Braunfels Canyon for their first opening-round win in eight seasons.

From there, the Chargers blew out Brackenridge in the second round at Northside, 53-38, for the program’s first second-round victory ever.

Champion’s season came to an end in the third round against district foe and state runner-up Veterans Memorial at Northside, 46-34.
