Smithson Valley charged out of the gate against the Lady Chargers on Tuesday and scored 8 runs in the first inning and 7 more in the third on its way to an 18-2 win over the Chargers softball team in four innings.

Champion slips to 12-14 overall and 6-7 in district with one game left.

Champion and Veterans Memorial were tied in the district standings for the fourth and final playoff spot up for grabs at 6-7 heading into Friday and split their season series. Champion was at Seguin on Friday and Veterans Memorial visits Kerrville Tivy to close out the regular season. If they both lose or both win, they’ll stay tied and will have a play-in game, but if one wins and the other loses, then the winner on Friday advances.
