Gwendolyn Sue Mays was born Feb. 18, 1940, in Palestine, Texas, to Lucy Margaret Spain

Lockley Mays and John Wesley Mays.

Gwendolyn Sue married Byron Robert Spain Jr., on March 5, 1960, and was happily married for more than 58 years. Gwendolyn Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Byron; one brother, John W. Mays Jr.; and parents, Lucy M. Mays and John W. Mays.

Gwendolyn Sue leaves behind her brother, Richard E. Mays and wife, Karen, of San Antonio, Texas; two daughters, Karen J. Compton and

husband, Ronald E., of Saint George, Kansas, and Catherine S. Spain of Boerne, Texas; six grandchildren, Janette M. Ryser (Jeremy), Michael J. Gilliam (Brandy), Mandy A. Hohenberger (Taylor Kye), Kyle J. Gilliam, Colby K. McCune, and Jacob R. Latta; and nine great-grandchildren, Ava, Owen, Arrow, Kason, River, Violet, Aria, August, and Forest.
