Betty Syfert

Betty Lou (Merz) Syfert, 85, of Kerrville, Texas, passed away Saturday, Jan. 20, 2024. A family service will be held on Feb. 24, 2024 in Boerne, Texas.

July 7, 1938 - Jan. 20, 2024

Betty was born on July 7, 1938, in Kerrville, Texas, to R.L. and Wilma Merz. Betty was a devoted wife to her husband, David, for 64 years. They shared a love of family, friends, children, and travel. They were inseparable.

Betty was the heart of her family, and she was the one to run to when you needed help. She could be counted Syfert on to show up at all your events, cook comforting dinners, offer you a glass of tea, give you advice, watch the grandkids or just about anything else. She made cakes and dressed dolls for the school carnival, was a room mother, a Cub Scout den mother, sewed costumes, drove you and your friends places, lent an ear, danced in the kitchen and laughed with you.

She was very witty and always had a smile. She did the hard things, too. She gave up days and nights to nurse people, supported people, went out of her way for people and accepted everyone. She was a true servant.

Betty enjoyed her yard. She made sure the carpet grass was thick and green. She planted flowers, grew fruit trees and sweet-smelling vines. She had a green thumb.

Betty also loved music. Even though she never had lessons, she taught herself to play the piano and could play by ear. She sang beautiful harmony and loved Christmas carols and old church hymns. Betty was close to the Lord and knew Him as her savior.

She is survived by her son, Guy Syfert and wife, Pam; her daughter, Dava Bass and husband, Richard; her sister, Brenda Bauer; her grandson, Dereck Syfert and wife, Kylie; her granddaughter, Ashley Crowder and husband, Jeff; her granddaughter, Morgan Key and husband, Cody; and numerous great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, David Syfert; her parents, R.L. and Wilma Merz; and her granddaughter, Shay Syfert Ray.

The family would like to express their gratitude to her caregivers, Beth Canter, Paula Buxton, Debi Wilson and Edith Scher.

Instead of floral remembrances, the family suggests that donations be made to Peterson Hospice, 250 Cully Drive, Kerrville, Texas, 78028, to honor Betty’s memory.
