Sandie Shepherd

Sandie Shepherd

Sandie Joiner Shepherd was born Sept. 22, 1947, in Louisiana to Delmon and Annie Mae Joiner. Sandie had four brothers and one sister who spent the early part of their lives on a cotton plantation where their daddy was the overseer.

Sept. 22, 1947 – Jan. 7, 2024

When Sandie was still very young, they left Louisiana and moved to Texas, and she grew up in Grand Prairie.

Sandie lived a simple life with the love of her family and never felt like she was missing out on anything. She enjoyed school, loved to dance, and even won two beauty pageants.

Although she never attended college, she excelled in her professional career, working at a law firm and then in the hotel business before joining a large company in Dallas as an executive assistant.

In the ‘70s, Sandie met the love of her life, Tom Shepherd

Shepherd. They were married and Sandie became an instant mother to four young kids who she loved like her own. After many years in Dallas, Tom and Sandie moved to Cedar Creek Lake and then to Athens, Texas, where she was very involved with Meals on Wheels, the food pantry, and her church.

When Tom passed away in 2019, Sandie stayed in Athens for a while but eventually decided she wanted to be closer to her girls and moved to Boerne in 2020. Daughter April and her husband, Ted, built a beautiful guest house for Sandie to live in so that they could help take care of her.

Sandie passed away Jan. 7, 2024, at the age of 76. She suffered from many ailments but was so strong, most people would never know. She passed away peacefully at home in Boerne with her family by her side.

Sandie was preceded in death by her husband, Tom J. Shepherd; one daughter, Stori Hughes; one son, Steele Shepherd; her parents, Delmon and Annie Mae Joiner; one sister Dorothy Ottmo; and three brothers Buck, Dave and Donnie Joiner.

Sandie is survived by her brother, Dan Joiner; two daughters, April Emrie and her husband, Ted, and Stephanie Schneider and her husband, Brad; five grandchildren, Mason Emrie, Taylor (wife Karina) Emrie; Avery (wife Cody) Schneider, and Michaela and Kendall Schneider.

Funeral services were held Jan. 27 at the St. Mark’s Presbyterian Church in Boerne.
