Boerne High won two of three district games last week and stayed in the hunt for a playoff spot as the regular season winds down this week.

The Hounds split with Pieper last week and lost the first game 3-0, but bounced back to beat them Friday, 3-2 in extra innings. On Saturday, BHS whipped Wagner, 13-3.

Boerne improved to 9-5 in district (16-11 overall) and is fighting for a playoff spot with New Braunfels (9-4), Pieper (9-6) and Kerrville Tivy (8-5) going into the final week of district. Unfortunately, two of those teams will get left behind and out of the playoffs.

BHS plays Wednesday at New Braunfels and the Hounds will host Friday’s game, 4:30 p.m.

BHS 13, Wagner 3

After taking a 3-0 lead in the first, Boerne scored 6 runs in the second to secure the win on Saturday. The Hounds added 3 in the third and another in the fourth.

BHS had 10 hits, all singles. Ronnie Scarbrough had a big game at the plate and hit 2 singles, collected 5 RBI and scored twice.

Cale Francis plated 2 runs and Colton Shaver walked twice, singled and scored 3 runs, while Jackson Grimes took 2 walks, drove in 2 runs and scored once and Josh Kory singled and picked up 2 RBI.

Scarbrough tossed 3 innings and picked up the win, while giving up 2 hits, 2 runs and 1 walk to go with 1 strikeout. Braden Ramirez threw 2 frames and struck out 3 and didn’t give up a hit.

BHS 3, Pieper 2

The Greyhounds needed to win Friday’s game to split their series with the Warriors, and they came through in crunch time. Boerne scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth with a walk-off single.

With two outs and a runner at third, Eli Srp singled up the middle to bring in Colton Shaver to end it.

Shaver singled to start the inning and moved to second on a sac bunt by Jackson Grimes. Shaver then advanced to third on a fielder’s choice ground out to put the winning run at third.

Srp took a ball on the first pitch and then hit the second offering back up the middle to end it.

Both teams scored 2 runs in the third after the Warriors hit a 2-run bomb for the 2-0 lead.

In the bottom of the third, the Hounds loaded the bases. A walk to Jake Perez brought in a run and then Shaver hit a sac fly to left to score EJ Goolsby from third after the tag and it was 2-2 with runners at first and second, but the Pieper defense held tough and didn’t allow another run in the frame.

It stayed there until the eighth inning when the Greyhounds won it.

Grimes started on the hill and went 5.1 before leaving with 98 pitches. He gave up a hit, 2 runs, 5 walks and struck out 7.

Kepa Kanae entered in the sixth and retired the two batters he faced. Shaver closed it out by throwing the final two frames and picked up the win after he struck out 4 and walked 2 and didn’t give up a run.

Pieper 3, BHS 0

Runs were hard to come by Tuesday when the Pieper baseball team hosted the Hounds.

In fact, there were only 3 runs scored and they all came in the third inning by Pieper and that was the difference in the game.

Not only were runs hard to come by, but hits were also elusive for the Greyhounds after they only recorded 2 base knocks and were shutout for the first time in district play.

Josh Kory doubled and Ronnie Scarbrough singled to account for their two hits, while Otis Skubal walked twice and Jackson Grimes also took a walk to account for their base runners.

Warriors’ pitcher Aiden Shreve fanned 13 BHS batters, while reliever Gibson Palombo struck out 3 as the two combined for 16 strikeouts.

Eli Srp started on the hill for Boerne and went 3.1 innings and gave up 5 hits, 2 earned runs, 4 walks and struck out 4.

Kepa Kanae and Colton Shaver both went 1.1 innings in relief and didn’t give up a hit or run. Kanae fanned 1 and Shaver struck out 3.

COMFORT – The Comfort baseball team handed Blanco its first district loss Tuesday at Bobcat Field, and they did it in impressive fashion after they run ruled the Panthers in five innings, 12-1.

Comfort and Blanco are tied for first at 6-1 in the district standings and met Friday. The Bobcats (19-3-1) control their own destiny and if they win Friday and take care of business this coming week against Llano, they would clinch their first district title since 2019.

The Bobcats scored in three of four innings and held a 2-0 lead at the end of the first frame. Kuhl yielded 6 hits, 3 runs, 3 walks and struck out 3 on 86 pitches.

Vs. Owen Kuhl had a big game at the plate and hit two triples. One of those 3-baggers came in the fifth to bring in 2 more runs before Kuhl scored on an error on the play to put the Chargers up 8-3.

Brody Eisert tripled in the sixth and the lead ballooned to 9-3 to basically put it out of reach.

Champion finished with 10 hits, including the two triples from Kuhl, who also doubled, scored 3 runs and collected 4 RBI, while Eisert had the RBI-triple.

Garland Whitehead knocked out 2 singles, Bendele homered, Al-Arashi singled and scored, Lyndon Austin plated 2 runs, Ethan Jensen scored once and Jaedyn Yamaguchi singled.

Blake Ott went 4 innings on the hill and picked up the win on 72 pitches.

Last Friday – April 10, 2026 – will go down as a historical day in San Antonio area high school sports. In the early afternoon, the Smithson Valley girls soccer team completed the first perfect season by an area team in any UIL sport since 1995 by winning the 5A-DI title, and at night, the Pieper boys team pulled off one of the biggest upsets in UIL state finals history in any sport by winning the 5A-DII title.

Both the Lady Rangers and Pieper boys came from District 26-5A, which contains the two Boerne ISD schools.

Last Friday also became known as “Adkins Family Appreciation Day” because the Smitson Valley girls coach won a title and then watched his twin sons, Cooper and Parker, who play at Pieper, win state on the boys side.

In the girls match, Alondra Sanchez scored in the 85th minute as the Rangers won the 5A girls soccer state title over Prosper Walnut Grove 1-0, and then later, Jack Blische scored in the 73rd minute in a driving rainstorm as Pieper shocked state power Frisco Wakeland 1-0 for their first team state title in anything.

It was the first time in 19 semifinal/ final matches that Wakeland was shutout.

The Rangers became the eighth SA-area UIL team to go unbeaten, with no losses or draws, and win a title in any sport and the first since the 1995 Roosevelt football team.

The Rangers were only the third girls team to do that and first since 1985. They joined the 1991 and 1993 Madison squads as the only area girls soccer state champions.

Jason Adkins had the wildest day of anyone. The Smithson Valley coach won the girls title, while sons Cooper and Parker were preparing to play in Pieper’s title match back home. The sons watched dad win his title on a computer before the team headed up to Georgetown to play.

While that was going on, Jason drove the Smithson Valley team bus back to Bulverde, dropped the players off, then got in his car and drove back to Georgetown to watch his sons play.

The Rangers match had 11 cards handed out that led to one Walnut Grove player being disqualified in the 45th minute, which gave the Rangers a man advantage the rest of the way.

But it took 40 minutes to score, until Sanchez got past a falling defender, dribbled bled and shot it past the keeper. She was keeper named match MVP.

Pieper was a massive underdog in the rain against Wakeland, which had more state titles – 5 – than Pieper had years open as a school.

Goalkeeper Nolan Masker, who made 2 saves in PKs in the semis vs. Austin LASA, became the first GK to shut out the Wolverines in a semi or final with 10 saves before Blische took a cross pass and booted it upstairs past the falling keeper for the win. Masker was named MVP.

Smithson Valley became the first non-Dallas – Fort Worth school to win football and girls soccer titles in the same athletic season.

For all-district soccer awards, be sure to look in the Boerne Star.

Smithson Valley girls soccer coach Jason Adkins, poses with his sons, Cooper and Parker, who play at Pieper. For more on Thursday’s game, see the Wednesday online edition of the Boerne Star.

Pieper had a fast start on Tuesday and tallied 4 runs in the top of the first inning. It stayed there until the second when the Chargers tied it up.

Brylyn Thornburgh singled and scored after Emily Thomas hit a ball that was misplayed to make it 4-1. Cora Cude and Torin Tucker then singled to load the bases with two outs.

From there, Teagan Rogers cleared the bases with a line drive to right field that bounced off the fielder’s glove and brought in 3 runs to tie it up at 4-4.

But the Chargers didn’t score after that and came up empty in the last five innings, while the Warriors were just getting warmed up. Pieper tallied 3 in the fifth, 3 in the sixth and 5 more in the seventh to pull away.

Champion recorded 7 hits, 3 from the bat of Torin Tucker, while Rogers, Mylie Parker, Thornburgh and Cude had 1 hit each. Tucker, Thornburgh, Thomas and Cude all scored once.

Parker threw 5.1 innings and gave up 7 hits, 4 earned runs, 4 walks and struck out 4, while Anna Hurst tossed the final 1.1 innings and yielded 2 hits, 4 runs and 4 walks.
