The Geneva School of Boerne softball team hit the road Saturday for a playoff game and the Eagles looked impressive in its postseason opener.
Geneva traveled to the Houston area Saturday and took on First Baptist Christian Academy from Pasadena and walloped the Warriors in five innings, 15-4.
The Eagles bumped their record to 10-3 overall and played district rival Holy Cross in the next round Tuesday at UTSA. Geneva and the Lady Knights split their two games this year in league play.
In last Saturday’s game vs. First Baptist Christian Academy, Geneva tallied 5 runs in the first inning, 3 in the second thanks to a 3-run Maegan Riebel home run and then scored 4 in the third, with 2 of those 4 runs coming behind a 2-run blast from Kate Friesenhahn.
FBCA scored a single run in the first and 2 in the second and was trailing the Eagles 12-3 at the end of three innings.
After neither team scored in the fourth frame, Geneva pushed in 3 more runs in the top of the fifth for the 15-3 lead.
The Pasadena school needed at least three runs in the bottom half of the frame to extend the game to another inning, but the Lady Warriors only managed to score one run and make it 15-4.
With an 11-run lead after five innings, the mercy rule kicked in and the game ended with Geneva on top.
The Eagles knocked out 15 hits and were led by Kate Friesenhahn, who had 3 hits, including a double and a 2-run homer, while Maegan Riebel hit a double and a 3-run shot and Sydney Schaefer finished 3 for 4 at the plate and hit a double and picked up 2 RBI.
Madeline Egbert was the winning pitcher and improved her record to 7-3. She struck out 10 batters in the game and gave up 6 hits.
