PIPE CREEK — Another community group has joined the chorus of advocates urging the Texas Department of Transpiration to speed up enhancements to problem-plagued Texas 46.
The Pipe Creek Community Association unanimously adopted a resolution Aug. 15 supporting the acceleration of the funded 46 West safety project, according to a release. Board members said the resolution will be sent to TxDOT Executive Director Marc Williams, TxDOT San Antonio District Engineer Charles Benavidez, Bandera County Commissioner Troy Konvicka and state lawmakers.
According to a release, “PCCA's resolution is particularly meaningful because it comes from the community that lives and drives within the corridor every day.”
The winding roadway has seen a large share of accidents and fatalities during the last few years, according to TxDOT data.
Pipe Creek residents are not the only ones with concerns.
The Bandera Independent School District board adopted a resolution on Aug. 10 requesting improvements to 46 and asking TxDOT for a formal response on steps and timelines.
In addition, the Pipe Creek Volunteer Fire Department “has committed its full support to the effort, with Chief Rory Henrich preparing a letter to TxDOT on the department's behalf,” according to the statement.
Safety advocates said since the spring there have been four other entities asking TxDOT to improve 46 or accelerate betterments, including:
• Bandera County Commissioners Court — April.
• Kendall County Commissioners Court — April.
• Boerne Independent School District trustees — June.
• Bandera Electric Cooperative board — July.
The resolutions build on formal letters sent earlier this summer to Williams by the national Motorcycle Safety Foundation and by state Rep. Wes Virdell, both urging the immediate implementation of the funded safety improvements.
