H-E-B shelves are missing several fresh-prepared items as NatureBest Precut & Produce LLC conducts a voluntary recall of products that may be contaminated with Salmonella.
According to an H-E-B news release issued Saturday, the affected products were distributed to stores across Texas and Louisiana between July 3 and Aug. 5.
The recall was issued after NatureBest was informed by Coast Citrus Distributors that certain jalapeño peppers supplied by the company had been recalled. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, federal, state, and local officials are investigating a multistate outbreak of Salmonella Javiana infections linked to jalapeño peppers imported from Sinaloa, Mexico, and distributed by Coast Citrus Distributors.
As a result, products manufactured with the affected peppers may also be subject to the recall.
Salmonella is a bacterium that can cause serious, and in some cases life-threatening, infections, particularly among young children, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Symptoms commonly include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.
NatureBest Precut & Produce LLC has halted distribution of the affected products and is working closely with its supplier and regulatory agencies to address the recall and protect public health.
H-E-B has joined the voluntary recall and removed several products from store shelves, including select guacamole blends, ceviche, and Pico de Gallo items.
H-E-B has published a complete list of affected products on its website for customers to review.
