BRAHMAS ATTEMPT “SKUNK IN THE OUTFIELD” PLAY

At one point in Thursday’s game, MacArthur attempted the legal “skunk in the outfield” play. Basically, the play occurs when a runner at first base runs into the outfield to create a distraction for a runner on third, who is attempting to score. Before a tag attempt, a runner’s base path is not defined and they can run anywhere they want, even into the outfield. When the defense attempts to tag the runner, the base path is established as a straight line between the runner’s location at the time of the tag attempt and the base they are attempting to reach. The play didn’t work for the Brahmas, and the runner was tagged out at second but the runner at third later scored on a single.
