Waibel

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Karen Rebecca “Becky” King Waibel, who died May 13, 2025, at her home in Boerne, Texas after a sudden illness.

Born in Brevard, North Carolina, on Aug. 9, 1948, Becky’s life was defined by her love of her friends and family, especially her three granddaughters. Her witty sense of humor will forever live in the hearts of those who knew her.

Becky was born to Edith Burrell King and Cecil King. Her mother instilled in her the values of kindness, hard work and resilience — qualities she embodied throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles “Buddy” King in 1959 and her husband, Albert Louis “Bud” Waibel, who died in June 1981 after a battle with cancer. They were married Sept. 12, 1969. Together they had two children that she devoted her life to.

A dedicated worker, Becky, spent many years as shipping manager at Pyromid Manufacturing in Redmond, Oregon, until its closure in 2001.

She lived in Powell Butte, Oregon, until relocating to Texas in 2019. She had a passion for classic cars and enjoyed the moments spent at car shows with her close friends. An avid shopper, Becky took great joy in decorating her beautiful home and was known for her remarkable ability to find the perfect gift for anyone, often surprising them with thoughtful gestures whenever they mentioned something they liked or wished for.

Her spirit of generosity extended beyond her friends and family. She was actively involved volunteering for Hope for Heroes, an organization she was passionate about. She also made many friends attending The First Baptist Church in Boerne.

Becky’s legacy will be remembered in the countless lives she touched with her witty personality, love and laughter. Her strong will and determination served as an inspiration to us all, reminding us to face challenges head-on and to find joy in everyday moments.

She is survived by one daughter, Paula (Troy) Ashwood and one son, Brad (Julie) Waibel of Boerne, Texas; three granddaughters, Brandi Waibel of Keizer, Oregon, and Kerigan and Kashtin Waibel of Boerne, Texas.

Becky was a proud grandmother who cherished every moment spent with her granddaughters, who were truly the center of her universe.

She is also survived by two brothers, Jimmy (Linda) King of Alabama and Bob (Rona) King of Oregon, and three sisters, Kathy Barker, Robyn McLain and Linda Zaputil of Alabama and Iowa.

As we gather in remembrance of this remarkable woman, we invite family and friends to join us for her celebration of life memorial service on June 30, 2025, at 3 p.m. at Ebensberger Fisher Funeral Home, 1265 N. Main St. in Boerne. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her name at: www.hopeforheroestx/ becky.com.
