A tryst with a 17-year-old student that led to inappropriate contact over social media with other female pupils netted a former Comfort High School teacher and coach a four-year prison term, prosecutors said.
Tye Britton Rexrode, 39, entered into a plea agreement after being charged with an improper relationship between an educator and a student, officials said June 6.
The four-year sentence handed down in the 451st state District Court will be followed by 10 years of probation for a second charge, with both sentences served consecutively, investigators added in a statement.
The courtroom outcome follows an investigation that revealed an educator “exploited his position” with the school district by engaging in an improper sexual relationship and further illicit conversations with multiple underage female students, investigators said.
The investigation began Feb. 1, 2024, when an anonymous report to high school administrators alleged an educator was involved in a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old learner.
Kendall County Sheriff’s Office investigators said the intimate relationship had been going on for months, including assignations at hotels in Kerr County.
Even though the student at 17 is an adult, Texas law prohibits sexual contact between teachers and learners. As the probe unfolded, law officers said they discovered the educator “initiated inappropriate contact with multiple other minors enrolled at the school.”
According to investigators, the man used social-media platforms to establish communication with the pupils, including sending sexually explicit messages and making improper advances.
His communications included discussions about age-of-consent laws and unsolicited offers to share explicit photographs of himself, according to prosecutors.
As part of his plea agreement, Rexrode is forbidden to reach out to any of the female students and is also barred from being around teenage girls and from coaching any girls’ teams.
Assistant Criminal District Attorney Andrew Fields prosecuted the case, officials said.
