The Boerne Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that occurred Sunday in the 30 block of Herff Road.
On Aug. 31 at 2:13 a.m., police were dispatched to a single-vehicle crash. When officers arrived, they found the driver unconscious inside the vehicle. The driver was removed through the passenger- side door, and life-saving measures were initiated but were ultimately unsuccessful.
A portion of Herff Road was closed for several hours as investigators worked to determine the cause of the crash.
A preliminary investigation shows the driver, who was the only occupant of the 2008 Nissan Altima, was traveling northbound on Herff Road when he veered into the center median and crashed into a tree.
The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene by Justice of the Peace Michelle Van Stavern. Next of kin has not been notified.
