As the high school football season enters the third week of play, both the Comfort High and Geneva School of Boerne football teams find themselves undefeated at 2-0.

For Geneva, it’s their first 2-0 start since the 2017 season when they went three rounds deep and played into December.

For Comfort, it’s their first 2-0 start since the 2020 season when they went 6-0 to begin the season.

Geneva is at home this week against Sabinal, while the Bobcats make the short drive to Ingram.

The Eagles are 2-0 and have been able to pick up both wins on the road. Geneva is finally in Boerne this Friday for its 2025 home opener and head coach Bob Rosenstiel said his team is excited about playing before the home crowd.

“We’ve been looking forward to playing at home,” he said. “It’s been a long offseason with a lot of travel for 7 on 7 and other events. Our home crowd is very supportive.”

Sabinal is 1-1 and picked up its first win of the season last week against Harper, 41-28. Prior to that, the Yellowjackets lost to Dilley, 47-23, to start the season.

Rosenstiel said he expects a tough contest from the Yellowjackets.

“Sabinal is a good, sound physical team,” he said. “They can pass the ball and run. Defensively, they fly to the ball and tackle well.”

The Eagles are coming off a win over La Pryor last Friday. Geneva was up 21-0 in the first quarter and eventually won 59-20.

Caleb Quitadamo had a career night and went 21 for 26 through the air for 301 yards and 6 touchdowns. Brady Chandler and Reid Aderholt combined for 260 receiving yards and 5 TDs, with Chandler getting 126 and Aderholt 134.

Even though the Eagles are 2-0, Rosenstiel said there’s still a lot to improve on.

“We’re getting better every day at being physical and mentally tough,” he said. “We need to clean up some assignment issues but I’m happy where we’re at right now.”

Comfort High

Ingram is a team that’s usually on Comfort’s non-district schedule and it’s been a pretty evenly matched series over the years.

The Warriors won their meetings with Comfort in 2023 and 2022, but the Bobcats took last year’s contest, 34-29, for one of their two wins last year.

Ingram is 0-2 to start the 2025 season and has lost its first two on the road at Crystal City (4626) and Bandera (21-17).

Bobcats coach Jay Rieken said the Warriors have a lot of speed and are dangerous even though they are 0-2.

“They are fast and play aggressive, speed is always dangerous,” he said. “They do what they do well and there’s no substitute for speed.”

Because the schools are only about 30 minutes apart and because they are both 3A schools, Rieken said it’s turned into a rivalry.

Also, Friday will be Ingram’s first game at home this year after the summer floods that affected the area and Rieken said he knows the crowd will be fired up.

“The last few years it has become kind of a rivalry because of the proximity,” he said. “Something crazy seems to happen every time we play them and that amps everyone up. They are great competition for us.”

Comfort is coming off a 35-28 win at Dilley. The Bobcats scored late in the fourth quarter and then held the Wolves off the board the rest of the way.

Omar Rivera had a great game as a running quarterback and tallied 189 yards on the ground on just 15 carries and punched it in twice.

Rivera also tossed a TD on 3 of 7 passing for 72 yards, with no interceptions.

Carter Pape ran 10 times for 117 yards and a score, while Hunter Ledlow finished with 14 yards and a rushing touchdown.

Case Barrett only made one catch, but it was good for a 28-yard TD reception from Valadez.

Ledlow led the Bobcats defense with 10 tackles, Dax Stehling and Damian Neri finished with 9 stops each and Gabriel Gonzales had 8 tackles.
