Laredo Alexander tallied the last two touchdowns of the game and went on to defeat Boerne Champion Thursday at Boerne ISD Stadium, 35-28.

Champion had pulled ahead 28-20 after the Chargers scored late in the third quarter on a 50-yard pass from Julian Navarette to Brogan Dempsey, their second TD connection of the night.

But the visitors from Laredo tied it on a 43-yard TD pass of their own from Karlo Tenorio to Jayden Gonzalez. The Bulldogs also converted their 2-point play and it was tied 28-28.

Tenorio hooked up with Jayden Gonzalez once more, this time on a 65-yard bomb that Gonzalez took to the house for the go-ahead score with 10:31 left.

Champion didn't score after the third quarter and came up empty on its last four possessions. They punted twice, went for it on 4th down and didn't covert and then Alexander came up an interception to turn the Chargers away with 2:34 left.

The Bulldogs ran out the clock from there with a pair of first downs to hand the Chargers their first loss of the season.

Champion closes out district at 2-1 and opens district play Friday against Smithson Valley.
