A Comfort man perished Wednesday evening when his pickup struck the back of a stalled 18-wheeler on Interstate 10 in Boerne, police said.
Bradly Dietert, 40, was pronounced dead at the scene on westbound I-10 near the Texas 46 exit.
Investigators said Dietert’s Toyota Tundra struck the rear of a semi-tractor trailer experiencing mechanical issues that had stopped in the inside lane of the interstate.
Witnesses told police the tanker truck did not have any rear lights on — brake or hazard — until seconds before the impact.
Police and the Texas Department of Public Safety closed a portion of the highway for several hours to conduct a crash investigation.
The driver of the 18-wheeler is cooperating with investigators, officials said.
