John Robert Collins Jr.
Aug. 18, 1940 Nov. 9, 2025
John Robert Collins Jr. went to be with the Lord on Nov. 9, 2025. John was born in Lexington, Kentucky, on Aug. 18, 1940, to John Collins Sr. and Abigail (Harris) Collins. He grew up in Chrisman, Illinois where he enjoyed playing basketball, and trombone in his school’s band.
He played college basketball for a small college in Missouri before heading south to study accounting at Louisiana State University, which became his beloved alma mater. This is where he met the love of his life, his wife of 63 years, Teegie.
After his graduation in 1963, the family moved to El Paso, Texas. There he began his career with Peat, Marwick, Mitchell and company and became a CPA. In the midst of his early career days, John and Teegie’s first two children were born.
Being an athlete and sports enthusiast himself, John relished coaching his kids’ sports teams. In 1971, the family moved to Houston which is where their third child was born. He eventually became a part owner of Excel Products Company.
In 1991, John and Teegie retired to Boerne, Texas, where John became an avid volunteer, even being named Volunteer of the Year. He was incredibly dedicated to serving his community through Junior Livestock, Daily Bread, Golfers for Others, and Rotary Club.
Also, for 22 years he prepared tax returns for free through AARP. During retirement he enjoyed traveling with his family and being a supporter of his grandchildren’s extracurricular activities.
John will be remembered for his extremely generous spirit, being a lifelong/ diehard LSU fan, and for always following through on anything he committed to with utmost attention to details. Though he lived a life worthy of many accolades, he himself was most proud of his family. In the last several years, he made it a point to tell them this.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, a brother, and his daughter Gina Sexton. He is survived by his wife, Teegie (Beridon) Collins, his children: Jill (Logan) Boswell and Rob (Kathy) Collins, his grandchildren: Chesley (Cody) Crawford, Wesley (Aimee) Boswell, Ginger (Jeremiah) Rubio, Taylor (Samantha) Mathes, Paige (Alan) Martin, and Quentin Mathes, and great-grandchildren: Mikiah, Collins Joe “CJ”, Canyon, Olivia, Emory, Corrie Lou, Owen, Cooper, and Jonah.
The family would like to thank The Kendall House, Alamo Hospice of Boerne, and CenterWell Home Healthcare for the compassionate care they gave. Memorial donations may be made to Saint Judes Children’s Hospital, Hill Country Daily Bread, and Charming Pet Rescue.
A celebration of life will be held at 10 a.m. on Nov. 22, 2025, at the First United Methodist Church of Boerne.
