Guatemalan man headed to prison on child-sex charges

A Guatemalan national received a 70-year sentence in state district court Thursday after pleading guilty to charges involving pornography and sexual relations with a child.

Eduardo De Jesus Pineda Quinonez, 35, was ordered to spend 50 years in prison on the possession charge and an additional 20 years for the indecency charge. When he completes his time behind bars, Quinonez will be released to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, officials said.

According to prosecutors, the investigation began after the 8-year-old victim made an outcry to the San Antonio Police Department. Those investigators forwarded the report to the Boerne Police Department.

Boerne officers determined the incident occurred May 27, 2024, at a former local trailer park and involved sexual contact between an older man and the victim.

Investigators discovered a video containing child pornography in the man’s possession and were able to identify the girl depicted in the images, according to a case summary.

That information led to a search warrant being issued for the suspect’s cellphone.

A subsequent search revealed the video was distributed to a group chat with eight other individuals, and additional images of child pornography were found on the device.

Judge Kirsten Cohoon of the 451st state District Court reviewed a pre-sentence investigation report prepared by Kendall County Adult Probation Officer Jake Meadows and heard the testimony of witnesses, according to prosecutors.

Meadows and the Kendall County District Attorney’s Office made the sentencing recommendations to the court. Assistant District Attorney Andrew Fields led the prosecution.
