Jewish community hosts Chanukah celebration

BOERNE — Chabad of Boerne invites the public to its fourth annual Chanukah Celebration on Main Plaza beginning at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 17.

A nine-foot Hanukkah menorah will be kindled followed by a celebration and refreshments, a chocolate gelt drop by the boerne Fire Department, and live music by Old Time Religion band.

The ceremony is presented by Chabad of Boerne, a Jewish outreach organization catering to the Hill Country communities.

Following the menorah lighting ceremony, Chabad organizers said there will be dancing, singing and eating donuts.

“The menorah serves as a symbol of the right and liberty of all citizens to worship God freely, openly and with pride,” said Rabbi Yossi Marrus, Chabad of Boerne executive director. “This nation was founded upon and vigorously protects the right of every person to practice his or her religion free from restraint and persecution.”

This year’s menorah lighting is dedicated in memory of the lives lost in the July Fourth floods.
