The Boerne High boys soccer team opened its new season by playing in the Alamo Heights tournament last week. It’s the school where Greyhounds head coach Michael Strong played back in the day, and Strong said the tourney doesn’t give out all-tournament selections.
BHS finished with a 2-1 record at the event and its two wins were lopsided. Boerne is off until next week when they open district play at home against Wagner.
The Greyhounds were shutout by Alexander 4-0 but scored 15 goals in their other two matches.
Boerne beat Fox Tech, 8-1, and had 3 goals from Shae Gonzales, and single goals from Kolton Fischer, Wyatt Velick, Nolan Stevens, Ramzy Handel and Shane Garcia.
Assists came from JP Santa Maria, and single assists came from Fischer, Stevens, Gonzales, Handal and Isaiah Santovena.
BHS also defeated Mission, 7-4, behind 3 goals from Ramzy Handal, along with single goals from Weston Bierle, James Canavan and Shane Garcia.
Handal and Shae Gonzales both finished with 2 assists apiece.
