Boerne High ended the first round of girls 26-5A basketball action with a convincing win over New Braunfels last Friday at home.
The Lady Greyhounds defeated the Lady Unicorns, 62-27, and stand at 7-1 in district through the first round. Boerne, ranked No. 21 in this week’s Texas Girls Coaches Association poll, is 19-6 overall.
Boerne (7-1) hosted Wagner (8-0) Tuesday as the top two teams in the district met to start the second round. The Lady Thunderbirds are currently ranked No. 1 in the state and stand 24-0 overall.
In last Friday’s contest, BHS was up 13-6 over the Unicorns after one quarter. The Lady Hounds dropped in 17 in the second and held NB to 9 points to take a 30-21 lead into halftime as Hartlee Menn matched the Unicorns with 9 points in the quarter.
The Lady Hounds took the third period 14-8 and then had its best quarter of the night in the fourth by recording 18 points, while New Braunfels only tallied 4 points as Sutherlin Menn finished with 9 points in the fourth quarter.
Sutherlin Menn recorded 19 points in the game and finished with a double-double after also coming up with 10 steals.
Hartlee Menn added 10 points, Oleyvia Ramos netted 8, Melia Gonzalez added 7 points, Addison Saur scored 6, Addison Palluch had 5, Addison Neal finished with 4 and JT Hernandez hit a 3-pointer.
