The Boerne Champion boys hit the road for a district basketball game at Kerrville Tivy.
The Antlers always seem to play well at home and defend their home turf, and that was the case last Friday as they went on to defeat the Chargers, 50-40.
Champion is 16-8 and slips to 3-3 in district. They were at Veterans Memorial Tuesday and host Smithson Valley Friday to close out the first round.
Kerrville Tivy was able to snap the Chargers’ sixgame winning streak, and it created a logjam in the 26-5A standings. Four of the teams – Champion, Boerne High, Tivy and Alamo Heights are all tied for fourth place at 3-3.
Champion struggled to find its shooting touch and went 2 for 19 from long range against the Antlers. Gavin Peck had a strong game and finished with 21 points but was the only Charger player in double figures.
Nik Georgelos and William Kliesing both added 6 points, Travis Clark tallied 3, while Nicholas Plummer and Ryan Gallardo scored 2 points apiece.
Kliesing led the team on the boards with 6 rebounds, Reid Reddy had 2 assists and both Kliesing and Reddy finished with 2 steals each.
