Boerne Champion’s Gavin Peck turned in a record-setting performance Tuesday when the Chargers visited Veterans Memorial for a 26-5A boys basketball game.

Peck finished with 45 points and set a single game scoring record for the Chargers program.

Despite Peck’s effort, the Patriots still won the game 79-59 to maintain their grip on first place in the district standings.

The Chargers slipped to 16-9 overall and 3-4 in district. They closed out the first round of district Friday by hosting Smithson Valley and kick off the second round next Friday at Alamo Heights.

Peck beat the old school mark by one point that was set in 2022 when Braden Baum tallied 44 points in a district game. The next three highest point totals in a single game by a Charger belong to Nathan Ghavidel, who had 41 twice, along with 37 and 36 in a game. Baum also had 36 in a game in 2023.

In Tuesday’s contest, Peck went 14 for 24 for 58 percent shooting from the field (7 for 14 from the 3-point line and 7 for 10 from 2-point range.) He also made 10 of 11 free throws for 91 percent shooting at the line and played the entire 32 minutes.

Reid Reddy added 5 points, Travis Clark added 4, Nicholas Plummer hit a 3 pointer and Kristopher Lauderdale chipped in with 2.

Reddy grabbed 5 rebounds and dished out 3 assists, while Peck also tallied 2 assists.
