Both Boerne Champion soccer teams kicked off district play Tuesday against Veterans Memorial and it was a successful night for the Chargers.
The Champion boys were home and defeated the Patriots 7-1, while the Lady Chargers were on the road and picked up a 6-1 victory.
District action continued against Smithson Valley Friday. The boys were on the road and the Lady Chargers hosted the Lady Rangers. The Smithson Valley girls are ranked No. 1 in the state in the latest Texas Girls Coaches Association 5A poll.
Varsity Boys
Champion went up 3-1 in the first half and then blanked the Patriots in the second half, 4-0.
A couple of Chargers knocked in multiple goals after Kefe Omokuru and Grayson Moran tallied 2 goals each, while Will Hankins, Bryce Knell and Ethan Souza all recorded 1 goal apiece.
Bryce Knell and Jones Ferguson finished with 2 assists each and Christian Sommer added one assist.
The Chargers are 4-2 overall and start district 1-0. After visiting Smithson Valley on Friday, they will host Alamo Heights next Friday.
Varsity Girls
The Lady Chargers were up 3-0 by halftime and then outscored the Lady Patriots in the second half, 3-1.
Macy O’Dell knocked in 2 goals, while Grace Johnson, Kylie Rose, Maggie Hall and Jessica McKenzie all tallied single goals.
Claire McClain, Daylynn Carpenter, Hall and Jayme Harrell recorded assists in the match.
Champion improved to 5-0 with Tuesday’s win and started district at 1-0. After hosting Smithson Valley on Friday, they are scheduled to visit Alamo Heights on Jan. 23.
