Lady Chargers sweep Veterans Memorial in girls hoops

Boerne Champion took care of business Tuesday night at home when the Lady Chargers defeated Veterans Memorial to start the second of 26-5A basketball.

Champion picked up its third district win of the season after beating the Lady Patriots by 30 points, 63-33. The Lady Chargers improved to 3-6 in 26-5A and swept Veterans Memorial this year.

The Chargers (11-17 overall) visited Smithson Valley Friday and are off until next Friday when they host Alamo Heights.

Champion had a strong start and knocked down four 3-pointers in the first quarter, three from Jenna Koepke and another from Sage Ramsey, to pull ahead 24-6 at the end of the first quarter.

The Chargers tallied 19 in the second and outscored the Patriots 19-11 for the 43-17 halftime lead.

Veterans Memorial hit for 8 in the third and fourth quarters, while the Chargers finished it out with 11 and 9 in the final two periods.

Brielle Burdick, who had 8 points in the opening stanza to help the Chargers to their fast start, led the team in scoring with 18 points. Koepke finished with 16 points and Kylie Baum, who had three 3s in the game, netted 10 points in total.

Kam Edwards, Ramsey, Taylor Dennis and Saoirse Ray all scored 4 points and Jordyn Davis made three free throws to finish with 3 points.
