THE BOOKWORM

Have you heard of Burns Night? It’s a night of celebration of all things Scottish, and the poet Robert Burns who was born on Jan. 25, 1759, in South Ayrshire, Scotland.

People all over the world get together on the evening of his birthday to eat Scottish food and read his poetry.

In case you’re interested in hosting your own Burns Night, the library has you covered.

The poetry of Robert Burns is in the public domain, and you can download his works through the Gutenberg.org database with the library.

We also offer the A-to-Z World Food database, where it’s easy to search recipes from all over the world, including intriguing Scottish dishes like Cullen Skink (a soup originating from a town called Cullen in northeast Scotland).

If you would like to read fiction titles about Scotland, “The Scottish Bookshop” mystery series by Paige Shelton is available through the Cloud library app and the Libby app.

“The Shetland Mysteries” by Marsali Taylor is available in print, as well as the Jimmy Perez series set in Shetland, by Ann Cleeves.

The Boerne Chamber of Commerce website mentions that Richter Boerne will be holding their own “Burns Night” celebration on Wednesday, Jan. 28, if you’d like to check it out.
