Geneva basketball teams split district games at JPII

The Geneva School of Boerne basketball teams were on the road last Friday for a pair of games against Schertz John Paul II.

Geneva split their two games after the girls won, and the boys lost in a close one.

The Eagles hosted Holy Cross on Tuesday and will visit New Braunfels Christian Academy on Friday.

Varsity Girls

The Geneva girls defeated Schertz JP II on Friday, 42-22, to snap a three-game skid in district. The Eagles improved to 7-17 overall and 3-3 in district.

Sopris Oglesby led the team with 11 points, while Reese Smith and Amelia Morgan were one point away from double digits with 9 points apiece.

Payton Boles scored 5, Carlyle Harden and Lexi Oglesby both netted 3, while AnnaClaire Bussey chipped in with 2 points.

Boles grabbed 12 rebounds and had 3 steals, Sopris Oglesby dished out 3 assists and Smith came up with 3 steals.

Varsity Boys

Last Friday’s game went down to the wire, and the Guardians were able to defend their home court with a 58-56 win over the Eagles.

JP II was up 17-14 by the end of the first quarter and then the Guardians doubled up the Eagles in the second for the 35-23 halftime lead.

Geneva made a strong comeback in the third and took the quarter, 17-8, and the lead was down to three points at 43-40 going into the fourth quarter.

The Eagles outscored the Guardians in the final stanza but only by a point, 16-15, as JP II recorded the twopoint win. Geneva is 1-5 in district and 8-13 overall.
