Boerne High hosted Kerrville Tivy last Friday and the Hill Country rivals were in a shootout as the boys basketball teams battle for positioning in 26-5A to wrap up the first round.
The teams combined for 176 points, and the Antlers dropped in 90 to defeat the Greyhounds, 90-86.
BHS closed out the first round of district at 3-5 and is 13-13 overall. Boerne kicked off the second round Tuesday at Veterans Memorial and hosts Smithson Valley Friday.
The Patriots ended the first round of 26-5A action at 7-1, and it was the Greyhounds that handed them their only loss in district play. New Braunfels is second (6-2), Pieper (5-3) is third, followed by Alamo Heights, Kerrville Tivy and Boerne Champion, all at 4-4.
Wagner and Boerne High are right behind the three schools that are 4-4 with records of 3-5.
