Greyhound soccer teams shutout Veterans Memorial

Boerne High challenged Veterans Memorial Tuesday night in 26-5A soccer action and both Greyhound squads were able to record shutouts against the Patriots.

The BHS boys defeated the Patriots, 9-0, and the Lady Greyhounds beat the Lady Pats, 4-0.

Boerne played Smithson Valley Friday, and both the boys and girls matches were moved up to stay ahead of the weather.

The Greyhounds face cross-town rival Boerne Champion on Tuesday. The BHS boys will host Tuesday’s match against the Chargers, and the Boerne girls are at Champion on Tuesday.

Varsity Boys

The Greyhounds were at home and won 9-0 and received goals from five different players. Four of them had two goals each after Shae Gonzales, JP Santa Maria, Kolton Fischer and James Canavan all tallied 2 goals apiece, while Ramzy Handal added a goal.

Gonzales and Canavan recorded 2 assists each, while Santa Maria, Bruno Bayardo, Brody Bowen and Shane Garcia all recorded single assists as eight of the nine goals were assisted.

Hadden Silva also had a save for the Greyhounds team that improved to 3-0 in district and is 5-1 heading into Friday.

Varsity Girls

Boerne’s four goals were scored by four different players during Tuesday’s road match at Veterans Memorial.

Bella Pettet, Sadie Parker, Eliana Bove and Peyton Tilley all finished with one goal apiece, while Molly Miller and Mahaley Merkens came up with one assist each.

The Lady Greyhounds stayed unbeaten in district at 3-0 and improved to 7-2 overall.
