Boerne High took on Smithson Valley in boys and girls varsity soccer Friday. The matches were moved up a few hours to stay ahead of the weather, and neither Greyhound squad scored against the Rangers.
Both were in action Tuesday against crosstown rival Champion and then will play Alamo Heights Friday.
Varsity Girls
Smithson Valley sits atop the state rankings as the No. 1 5A girls’ team in Texas and handed the Lady Hounds their first district loss of the season.
The Lady Rangers won Friday’s match in Boerne 7-0 to drop BHS to 7-3 overall and 3-1 in district. Boerne was at Champion Tuesday and hosts Alamo Heights Friday.
It looked like Boerne was going to get on the scoreboard late in Friday’s match after they knocked in a goal, but it was disallowed. The Boerne player kicked it in directly after a foul, but the official said it should have been an indirect kick instead of a direct kick, so it was taken off the board.
In the case of an indirect kick, at least two players have to touch the ball before it can go in.
Instead, SV took the ball the other way and scored while Boerne players were getting an explanation from the official. The official let the Rangers’ goal stand.
Varsity Boys
The Greyhounds and Rangers played to a 0-0 draw Friday at Smithson Valley.
Boerne is 5-1-1 and still unbeaten in district at 3-01. The BHS boys hosted Champion on Tuesday and visit Alamo Heights Friday.
