FAIR OAKS RANCH — The city is installing a 500,000-gallon tank at Water Plant 5 as part of a nearly $9 million project to improve delivery, officials said.
The tank is expected to help the city’s water system during high demand and power outages, according to a city press release.
Fair Oaks Ranch began the installation in early December, starting with the foundation. The project’s budget is $8.7 million with about $1 million spent so far, according to the statement on the city website.
The initiative will provide elevated storage in Zone A of the city, intended to enhance flexibility and capacity for both domestic and emergency use, officials said.
The water main will serve the storage tank, allowing fire flow capacity to Zone B.
According to the city’s website, 4,000 linear feet of 12-inch waterline along West Ammann Road in conjunction with the elevated storage tank will improve fire flow and meet peak requirements.
“This will effectively double the capacity at Water Plant 5,” City Manager Scott Huizenga said. “We will be placing the tank itself in April.” According to officials, the plant had struggled to keep up with demand and the storage tanks were not frequently emptied.
The project is expected to finish May 1, 2028. According to the website, the project as of Tuesday is 48% complete.
The city’s news release noted the construction could create noise and cause “visual impact,” with officials asking for patience.
