Champion swimmers sweep at district meet

SAN ANTONIO – Boerne Champion made it a clean sweep at the District 28-5A swim and dive meet last week after the Chargers captured first place in the boys and girls divisions. This year’s seniors have won district titles for the four years on both the girls and boys sides.

The top six finishers move on to regionals set for next weekend (Feb. 6-7) at the Southwest ISD Aquatics Center, where the swim portion of the district meet was held.

Varsity Girls (Top 10)

Jada Green won the 1-meter diving event with 311.75 points a few days before at NS.

The Lady Chargers tallied 198 points to win the 28-5A title, BHS (133) was second, followed by NB (96), Southwest (42), SW Legacy (24) and Jay (11).

Champion won the 200yard medley with a 1:47, won the 200 freestyle with a 1:44 and the Lady Chargers won 400-yard free relay with a time of 3:41 to sweep all the relay races.

Addison Homann took 2nd in the 200 free at 2:07, Breanna Hempton was 4th in 2:14 and Elana Duran came in 7th in 2:27.

Addison Graham won the 200 IM with a 2:08, Madi Neuman was 3rd in 2:22, while Aubree Casto and Ava Story went 8-9 with a 2:51 and 2:56.

Kate Canales won the 100 butterfly after posting a 55.96, while Ava Story and Marlowe Cooper were 5th and 6th with times of 1:18.88 and 1:18.94.

Cora Skoog won the 100 free after posting a 51.90, Karly Whitehead was 3rd in 54.78, Meghan Jackson came in 4th in 58.06 and Cayden Van Dyne finished 7th in 59.99.

Addison Graham won the 500 freestyle after clocking in at 5:03, Breanna Hempton came in 3rd in 6:11 and Lila Akin was 4th in 6:50.

Karly Whitehead won the 100 backstroke in 58.48, Addison Homann finished 5th in 1:10 and Aubree Casto was 9th in 1:16.

Kate Canales won the 100-yard breaststroke after posting a 1:03, Madi Neuman was 3rd in 1:10, Elena Duran recorded a 1:27 for 7th and Emma Gerhart placed 10th in 1:39.

Varsity Boys

Champion racked up a meet-high 201 points to beat NB (126), Southwest (74), SW Legacy (40), Jay (38) and Boerne High (36).

Gavin Richmond scored 356.35 points in diving for 2nd place a few days before the swim portion.

The Chargers were 2nd in the 200 medley with a 1:44 and won their other two relay races after they were 1st in 200-free relay with a 1:30 and they also won the 400 free relay with a 3:19.

Carson Muenchow took 2nd in the 200 free with a 1:50, Aaron Mendoza placed 4th in 2:01 and Baylor Slay was 6th in 2:11.

Austen Lange took 2nd in the 200 IM with a 2:13, Juan Nieto posted a 2:25 for 4th and Grant Perkins came in 7th in 2:30.

The Chargers captured the top 4 spots in the 50 free after Will Harrison, Marcelo Garcia, Julius Hoxhaj and Luke Bove posted times of 20.86, 22.44, 23.86 and 23.89.

Marcelo Garcia won the 100 butterfly with a 55.02, Ethan Altermatt and Nash Belson were 3rd and 4th with times of 57.23 and 59.45 and Cian Maloney came in 8th in 1:02.

Will Harrison won the 100 free with a 47.45, Aaron Mendoza was 3rd in 50.59, while Julius Hoxhaj and Erik Skoog were 7th and 8th with times of 55.07 and 56.14.

Carson Muenchow placed 2nd in the 500 free in 4:58, Baylor Slay was 5th in 5:54 and Finn Poole placed 8th in 6:29.

Luke Bove placed 3rd in the 100 backstroke after recording a 1:00, Grant Perkins was 6th in 1:04, Juan Nieto was one spot back in 7th with a 1:05 and Vance Lander came in 9th in 1:07.

Austen Lange, Cian Maloney, Jackson Hankins and Lucas Romero went 2-34-5 in the 100 breaststroke with times of 1:06, 1:08.31, 1:08.40 and 1:09 to round out the Charger scoring.
