Tuesday’s victory by the Boerne High girls soccer team over Champion should be a memorable one for the Lady Greyhounds because it marks their first victory in the series against the Lady Chargers.

The teams were in the same district for four years from 2010-13 and again in 2024 and the best the Lady Hounds had done until this week is tie Champion on three different occasions.

It was a different story Tuesday at Charger Field after the Boerne girls raced out to a 3-0 lead by halftime before winning the match, 4-2.

Boerne’s win improves their record to 8-3 overall and 4-1 in district, while the Lady Chargers are 5-2-1 overall and 1-2-1 in district.

Champion visited Pieper Friday and will host New Braunfels Tuesday, while the Boerne girls hosted Alamo Heights Friday and are off Tuesday. They visit Pieper on Friday.

The BHS girls were sharp to start each half on Tuesday and open the halves with goals within the first few minutes.

After a 1-0 start, the Lady Greyhounds added two more goals before halftime and then started the second half with a header for another quick goal less than 90 seconds in for the 4-0 advantage.

The Lady Chargers fought back and got on the board with two second-half goals. They had a few chances to get in a few more, but the BHS defense didn’t yield any more goals in the final 18 minutes.

Bella Pettet had a strong game for Boerne High and finished with 2 goals and an assist. Ocean Valenciano and Eliana Bove added single goals, while Mahaley Merkins tallied 2 assists before leaving with an injury.

Lily Alejo and Daylynn Carpenter recorded Champion’s 2 goals, while Alejo also came up with an assist on the Carpenter goal, for their first of the match.
