Boerne High went toe to toe with Alamo Heights Friday night at Greyhound Gym – for the first half – but the second half belonged to the Mules.
Friday’s contest was tied 23-all at halftime, but BHS couldn’t find its offense in the third quarter and was outscored by the Mules 20-3 in the period and 31-12 in the half. Alamo Heights went on to win the game, 54-35.
The Greyhounds slipped to 4-8 in 26-5A and are 14-16 overall. The Hounds were off Tuesday and at Pieper on Friday.
Boerne played well in the first half and dropped in 13 in the first quarter and 10 in the second, while the Mules netted 15 and 8 to both finish with 23 points by halftime.
Once the second half started, BHS struggled and went 5:38 without a point before Julien Hartman made a free throw with 2:22 left in the third. The Mules scored the first 11 points of the period and were up 34-23 when Hartman hit the foul shot.
Boerne’s only other points in the period came on a Bo Pape 2 pointer with 51 seconds remaining in the stanza for their first bucket of the quarter and were outscored 20-3.
The Hounds played better in the final stanza and tallied 9 points but were still outscored 11-9 and couldn’t overcome their slow third quarter.
Slade Salinas continues to play well in the paint and tallied 10 points, Parker Ballenger added 6 points, Jay Aldridge and Pape both scored 4, Hartman had 3, while Ty Reynolds, Riley Pierce, Noa Sanchez and Will Traylor all chipped in with 2.
