Geneva School of Boerne visited Corpus Christi to take on Incarnate Word last Friday and the Angels were able to sweep the Eagles in boys and girls basketball.
The Eagles were off Tuesday and host Castle Hills Friday before closing out the regular season at Holy Cross next Tuesday.
Varsity Girls
CC Incarnate Word Academy snapped Geneva’s four-game district winning streak after defeating the Lady Eagles, 56-27.
Geneva drops to 10-18 overall and 6-4 in district.
A strong second quarter proved to be the difference last Friday. IWA was up 12-9 at the end of one but outscored the Eagles in the second stanza, 19-4, for the 31-13 halftime lead.
The Angels kept their foot on the gas pedal in the second half and outscored the Eagles in the third, 12-6, and again in the fourth quarter, 13-8.
Reese Smith and Payton Boles led Geneva with 7 points each, while Lexi Oglesby, Sopris Oglesby and Amelia Morgan all tallied 3 points and Gracyn Miller and AnnaClaire Bussey both hit for 2.
Harden snagged 5 rebounds, while Smith and Lexi Oglesby both came up with 3 steals.
Varsity Boys
Geneva put up a good fight but fell to the Angels, 46-42. The Eagles slipped to 2-8 in district and 9-16 overall.
The Geneva boys were trailing 15-14 at halftime in a defensive battle. Both picked up the pace in the third quarter and the Angels outscored the Eagles in the period, 24-17, to open up a 39-31 lead going into the fourth quarter.
Geneva outscored IWA in the final stanza, 11-7, but the rally came up short and the Angels held on for the four-point win.
