Champion boys finish second at regional swim/dive meet

SAN ANTONIO – The Boerne Champion boys swim/dive team finished second at the recent Region 7-5A meet held recently at the Southwest ISD Natatorium.

Champion was second with 345 points, behind Austin LASA with 451 points, while Austin Anderson was third (307).

The top two finishers qualify for state, and others have a chance at a wildcard depending on times compared to other regions.

Several of the Chargers qualified for state scheduled for this weekend in Austin on the UT campus.

State qualifiers for the boys include EJ Altermatt, Luke Bove, Marcelo Garcia, Will Harrison, Aaron Mendoza, Carson Muenchow and Gavin Richmond, while Julius Hoxhaj, Cian Maloney and Baylor Slay will go as alternates.

REGIONAL RESULTS In the 200-medley relay, Luke Bove, Jackson Hankins, Ethan Altermatt and Julius Hoxhaj teamed up for 3rd (1:43).

Carson Muenchow placed 6th in the 200 free (1:47), Aaron Mendoza was 8th (1:52), Nash Belson came in 6th in the B finals (2:00) and Baylor Slay was 8th in the B finals (2:08).

Austen Lange finished 1st in the B finals (2:12) and Juan Nieto placed 7th in the race (2:22).

Will Harrison set a new pool record in the 50 freestyle with a time of 20.31 and Marcelo Garcia came in 6th (22.38), while Luke Bove and Julius Hoxhaj were 3-4 in the B finals (23.23, 23.39).

Gavin Richmond tallied the most points in the 1-meter diving event after he scored 412.85 to win the event.

Marcelo Garcia finished 4th in the 100 butterfly (54.73) and Ethan Altermatt was 8th (56.30), while Nash Belson won the B finals (57.14).

Will Harrison won another race after he was 1st in the 100 freestyle (45.38) and Aaron Mendoza came in 7th (50.24).

Carson Muenchow placed 3rd in the 500 free (4:52) and Baylor Slay was 7th in the B finals (5:49).

Will Harrison, Marcelo Garcia, Luke Bove and Ethan Altermatt teamed up for 2nd in the 200-free relay (1:26).

Bove also placed 2nd in the B finals of the 100 back (59.49) and Grant Perkins came in 4th in the B finals (1:01).

Jackson Hankins and Cian Maloney came in 6-7 in the 100 breaststroke (1:04, 1:05.12), while Austen Lange won the B finals (1:05.77).

In the final event of the day, Harrison, Muenchow, Garcia and Mendoza teamed up to win the 400-medley relay (3:13).
