SAN ANYONIO – Cedar Park was able to erase a fivepoint deficit in the final three minutes of Tuesday’s firstround playoff game against Boerne High and went on to defeat the Lady Greyhounds, 39-37.

Boerne was up 37-32 after a pair of Addison Palluch free throws late in the fourth quarter, but those would be their final points of the season after the Timberwolves went on a 7-0 run to end the game and secure the narrow victory.

Cedar Park has ended Boerne’s (26-8) season two years in a row. Last year, they did it with a Hail Mary 3-pointer at the buzzer, and this season, the Timberwolves did it by grinding it out down the stretch.

Cedar Park had a fast start and was leading 8-0 before Melia Gonzalez hit a 3-pointer to put Boerne on the board.

The Timberwolves held a 12-9 advantage at the end of the first quarter, but BHS outscored them in the second, 14-8, to take a 23-20 edge into halftime.

Boerne opened up its biggest lead of the game at 30-24 late in the third, thanks to a 5-0 run after a 3 from Sutherlin Menn and a pair of free throws from Addison Saur.

But Menn’s 3-pointer with 2:00 left in the third would be Boerne’s only made bucket in the second half. The Lady Hounds scored 14 points in the half and 11 came at the free-throw line, with the other 3 coming from Menn’s 3.

BHS was still leading 30-26 as the game went into the fourth quarter, but Boerne’s 7 points in the quarter all came from the line.

Palluch made her two free throws with 3:16 left for the 37-32 lead but that’s when Cedar Park made their move. A 5-0 spurt in 46 seconds by the Timberwolves tied it at 37-37 with 2:30 left.

Points were hard to come by for both teams after that, but a free throw with 1:52 remaining and another with nine seconds left gave Cedar Park the 39-37 advantage.

Boerne’s last six trips down the court resulted in either a turnover or a miss. The Lady Hounds took one last shot with time winding down in hopes of tying it, but the shot was off and the officials didn’t call a foul on the play to end it there.

Oleyvia Ramos had a strong game for Boerne and led the team with 11 points, Palluch added 9, Gonzales hit a pair of 3s for 6, Sutherlin Menn scored 5, Hartlee Menn netted 4 and Saur added 2.
