A long-awaited second entrance and exit for the Geneva School of Boerne is nearly complete, with plans to open sometime after Spring Break.
The break is March 9-13. The quarter-mile road stretches from its connection on the Interstate 10 West access road directly into the campus. The project includes required drainage improvements, two gate points, fencing and a security booth.
The private school broke ground Aug. 13 on the $1.9 million project, with J3 Construction as the lead contractors.
Officials said the entrance — visible along the I-10 access road with white markers designating the entry and exit lanes — will improve campus security, enhance access for families and emergency vehicles, reduce traffic on Cascade Caverns Road and avoid the low-water crossing on Old Fredericksburg Road.
The impetus for the project began in 2018 when the Geneva board approved purchasing 19 acres from the Cavender Chevrolet of Boerne auto dealership, officials said.
The new entrance is also the first step in removing traffic from the center of the academic areas and creating “a more secure campus perimeter,” according to a release.
At the groundbreaking last year, Head of School Leslie Moeller thanked members of Geneva’s Master Planning Committee and donors who made the fundraising effort pay off.
“A vision seven years in the making is now officially underway,” Moeller said. “We are grateful to the city of Boerne, Kendall County, many tireless volunteers serving on Geneva’s Master Planning Committee and our generous donors who helped make this day a reality.”
