Geneva girls tripped up in regional round of playoffs

The Geneva School of Boerne had their girls basketball season come to an end after the Hill Country Christian School of Austin eliminated the Eagles from the playoffs on Saturday in San Marcos, 56-50, in the regional or third round.

Geneva had a first-round bye and won their opener against Rosehill Christian School – Tomball.

In Saturday’s game, HCCSA jumped out to a big lead at 21-11 at the end of the first quarter, but the Eagles fought back and won the second quarter, 15-9, to make it 30-26 at halftime.

The Knights padded their lead in the third quarter by winning the stanza, 16-11, and held a 46-37 lead going into the fourth period.

Geneva tried to mount a comeback and outscored the Knights, 13-10, but the rally fell short as HCCSA held on the win to advance to the state tournament.

It was the final game for seniors Reese Smith, Payton Boles, Amelia Morgan and Sopris Oglesby.
