Boerne Champion challenged Alamo Heights in varsity soccer matches on Tuesday and the Chargers were able to sweep the Mules on both the boys and girls side.
The Chargers played crosstown rival Boerne on Friday and tangle with Pieper on Tuesday.
Varsity Girls
There was only one goal scored in Tuesday’s defensive battle at Charger Field, and it came midway through the first half in favor of Champion, and it proved to be the game winner.
Macy O’Dell drew a foul and took a free kick that almost looked like a corner kick. O’Dell kept it low and the ball rolled in front of the AH goal. After a few bounces, Lily Alejo flicked it in with her right foot for the only score of the night.
Hannah Lohse was in goal and helped to record the 1-0 shutout win. It’s Champion’s fourth shutout in their last five matches and sixth overall this season.
The Chargers improved to 5-5-1 in district (9-5-1 overall). They were at BISD Stadium Friday and host Pieper Tuesday.
Varsity Boys
The Chargers were able to sweep the Mules this year after recording the 4-1 win Tuesday in San Antonio. Champion also won their first-round meeting (3-2) on Jan. 22.
Bryce Knell had a career night and led the Chargers by scoring all four of their goals. Ethan Souza and Jones Ferguson both recorded one assist each.
Champion improved to 6-5 in district (10-7 overall). They hosted Boerne on Friday and will visit Pieper on Tuesday.
