AUSTIN – Boerne Champion senior Will Harrison closed out his Charger swimming career by winning two silver medals at last Saturday’s 5A state meet in Austin.

Harrison’s two medals helped the Chargers finish 10th in the final team standings at Saturday’s meet with 77 points. College Station A&M Consolidated won the event with 257.5 points and just edged out Prosper Walnut Grove (253.5), while Frisco Wakeland came in third (201).

In the 50 freestyle, Harrison placed second with a time of 20.20 and took second in the 100 free after posting a 45.72 for 34 team points, 17 for each event.

Harrison was also part of the 200-freestyle relay that just missed out on a medal after they were fourth. Harrison, Marcelo Garcia, Luke Bove and Ethan Altermatt teamed up for a time of 1:26.45 for fourth to earn 30 more team points.

Gavin Richmond rounded out the scoring after he tallied 13 team points in 1-meter diving after the senior finished in sixth place with a score of 389.20.

Champion also had a team entered in the 400free relay consisting of Garcia, Carson Muenchow, Aaron Mendoza and Harrison. The Chargers were seeded fourth after prelims but were disqualified after finishing sixth in the finals because of an early take-off from the blocks by one of the swimmers.

Lauren Summers was the only Greyhound at last week’s 5A state meet in Austin where she competed in the prelims of the 100yard breaststroke.

Summers, a junior, turned in a time of 1:07.88 but didn’t advance out of the prelims on Friday and into finals. She did serve as an alternate for Saturday’s B finals but didn’t get the chance to race.
